The Bled Island, which sits on Lake Bled, is Slovenia's only island, and it's home to the Church of the Assumption of Mary or "Mary on the Lake", a famous pilgrimage center founded in the 12th century. There are several ways to reach Bled Island, including by a traditional rowing boat called Pletna. Pletna boat rides are a must-do for every visitor to Lake Bled; it's similar to taking a gondola in Venice. In addition, the renowned Bled Castle can be found on a cliff above 100 meters high in the lakeside area, from where you can overlook the entire Lake Bled and enjoy a breathtaking panorama.
As Lake Bled is where wealthy people from all over the world want to spend their holidays, accommodation types on the lakeside tend to be luxury. Nevertheless, there are also some mid-range options available in the town of Bled, such as guesthouses and B&Bs located on more distant streets.
